Disable the browser connected/disconnected notification?

This thing is killing me.

If I’m doing an event and the browser disconnects, even for a moment, this notification pops up. I’m using the URL embed to display the screen via wirecast and when the browser goes offline, the only way to clear it is to open wirecast, go to the embed address, change the URL (so that is it wrong) then correct it. That is the only thing I have found that will clear this notification.

It’s a momentum killer.

Hi @dandeibert.

The “Browser Disconnected” notification actually waits 7 seconds of being disconnected before it appears. It is indeed a “permanent” notification so that the user sees it. It is cleared though automatically once the browser establishes a connection again.

However, on the Presentation View, we don’t show this notification at all as we don’t want it visible to your participants. And we assume you’ll see it on the Experience Dashboard.

So are you sharing the Presentation View or the Experience Dashboard?

I was using the url embed to create a web page that was displayed via Wirecast (similar to OBS). Like so…

https://app.crowdpurr.com/viewer/86guLy****mQ8?email=da@mail.com&password=}***************nL. So, it wasn’t a direct view of the “presentation view” but it was the method suggested at the time.

Now that no longer works (thankfully, I checked and figured this out before my large corporate event today), using the new method, I’ve changed the above embed to the new embed code. (much easier, btw). I’m hoping this fixes the issue. I’m concerned that it may still happen because it’s technically a web browser and not the direct presentation view… but we will see.

Of course, the best bet is not to have internet issues  .

Hi Ross,
The browser disconnected notification does indeed appear on the Presentation view and it stays there.
The only way ( I know) to get rid of it is to refresh the Presentation view screen, after regaining connection.
If it’s a picture question, it can obscure part of the picture…

And when you are embedding it via OBS or Wircast, there is no “refresh” button. The only way to do it is to change the embed link so that it it’s wrong… then change it back. This forces the refresh.

And like Gary said, the biggest issue is that it does block the right side of the question from being shown. So, since I’m usually in the audience walking around, I have to stop everything, run back to the stage, change the code (which shows the “can’t be found” error to the group, then when I change it back, it’s good.

It would be great if there were just simply a box to check to disable these notifications. (My groups use tablets I provide and I would really prefer the notice NOT show up there as well… but that is less bothersome to me.)

After reviewing, I indeed see that the disconnection notification appears on the Presentation View after all. At one time we used to not show it there.

Maybe we should just make the Presentation View one temporary - like normal notifications? Or hide it all together? One or the other. I can’t see adding another switch and setting just for this. Which one sounds better to you all?

I’ll add a ticket for this and we’ll get it updated in the next day or so.

@dandeibert Indeed, the username and password on the URL trick on the Presentation View has been removed in favor of the new, better Allow Public Presentation View setting. Glad you figured that out in time too! I didn’t think anyone would get caught by that as doing the URL trick wasn’t used very much. Per usual, I was wrong.

Hey Ross…if you can make it temporary.
That way I would know the browser has disconnected…but once I reconnect, there are no more steps to take.
Thanks.

My vote would be to NOT show it on the presentation view at all. I can’t see what good comes from informing the audience of the issue. I just don’t like the distraction and possibly having to explain it. Then again, I’m hardly ever looking at the presentation view as my tablet and notebooks are both displaying the experience dashboard, where it makes perfect sense for that notification to show.

That being said, I could live with it being temporary.

@RossN, I probably use this in a different way than most and I have a very complicated setup. The crowdpurr software is a major part of what I do, but there are other parts as well, hence my need to use wirecast to display other screens. Between two streamdecks, DMX lighting, external sound, my two tablets (used when walking around and also connected to the streamdecks) and the tablets I provide my players, there are a LOT of moving parts.

When things change within crowdpurr, even little things, it can have a big impact to my presentation until I figure out what changed and have to adjust. The big problem is when something changes between events and I don’t notice it until I’m actually doing another event. A perfect example of this is when the change was made to the way the game ended. That new “second click popup window” threw the end of my event into a $%itshow.

I say all of that to respond to your “glad you figured it out in time” statement. I’ve learned to pay VERY close attention to the release notes and check them before every show. Thanks for doing them.

Copy all @dandeibert. Thanks for all the details.

Yeah, I’m in favor of not showing the notification at all on the Presentation View. Maybe we could have it glow red quickly. Something less noticable by the audience but something you could know to look for.

We try very hard that everything new we add doesn’t affect any existing work or workflows. It’s interesting to hear that even with our best efforts, there’s some users who still get pinched. I think we do a really good job of making everything seamless, but sometimes there are some changes.

I guess I should definitely give you a heads up about the UI update we have planned! I think I’ll add an in-app notification about it. But in 2025, we have some changes coming. Good changes! But we will always continue evolving and getting better. And we are long overdue for some visual updates.

But l just like always, we will have the option to switch back to “Legacy” mode where it all looks and feels the same as before. Or maybe even an “opt-in” switch to update to the new look and feel.

I’ll report back here when we have the notification updated.

I think you guys do a great job with the updates and they generally have little impact on the workflow. I’m also well aware that when I create a custom workflow, there is absolutely no way to know on your end what changes will and will not impact that custom flow.

I suppose in a dream world, I’d love a new release staging or beta area where once an update is made, it’s optional for a couple of weeks while the kinks get worked out, and people could choose to move to the new version. Once it’s been vetted in the real world, it becomes the only version.

I’m sure that is a logistical nightmare though.

Looking forward to them! I always like bringing something fresh to our events.

Would love to see some new question types in the future. Like…

  • Multiple answers for text write in questions. (Name the two smallest planets in the solar system… with two answer boxes)
  • Number range type questions (within 20, How many Gutenberg Bibles are still in existence)
  • Multiple multiple choice answers (From this list of countries, select all of them that touch the equator)

I’ve been with you for a long time and still think Crowdpurr is the best of its kind out there. Looking forward to the new updates.

Hello, Dan. Thank you very much for the question suggestions, these are fantastic ideas, and I’m going to add them to the list.

After nearly 2000 trivia games, I’ve been looking to diversify our already great library, and these are perfect additions. Please don’t hesitate to reach out with other ideas or feedback that you receive from players, as that helps us fine tune our well oiled machine. Thanks again.

If I can piggy back on the questions suggestion.
Is it possible to allow MULTIPLE correct answers within the same question, but a player must get all multiple answers correct, to win points?

For example, “what states are allocated 19 electoral votes?”
(the answer is 2. PA and IL)

The answer options would have let’s say 6 states but players would have to click PA and IL to get points.

Currently, answering only one correct now snags you points which negates my suggestion.

Lastly, is it possible to remove the players score from their device and only allow it to be shown when the host shows it?

Great job as always. Thanks.
