[RELEASED] Configurable Quiz Mode Bingo Square Lockout?

The update is a great addition, but this is a problem with normal bingo as well. Would it be possible to make this an option so that it can be turned on and off for all bingo games?

Thanks for checking out the new feature!

Our thinking was, in a classic bingo game, a player should be able to mark any square at any time. But, I see what you mean, simply tapping every square would allow the player to easily sweep up any squares they missed.

But if they’re playing along, and on only one card, and it’s simply a matter of looking at the number and marking it, wouldn’t they have all their squares marked? Or do you call your bingo squares really fast? I know this is an aspect of the game, keeping up with the calls. But that’s more present when you have a handful of bingo games in front of you.

It does make sense though to have the lockout feature a setting that can be enabled for any format though.

Thanks for all your thoughts as we improve bingo!

I’m happy to report that in our latest update we have made Quiz Mode Bingo Square Lockout a configurable setting called Allow Unlimited Square Marking. It has been added under the Bingo Format settings. So you can now turn this setting off or on for any bingo format.

@RossN
Me again lol. We have been using the Bingo Square lockout now for a week and we may have found a bug. One of the reasons I requested it was stop players coming in late and catching up. There also seemed to be an advantage in coming late, as a high percentage would win, compared to those that had played the game from the start. The possible bug I have found is that if they click on a correct square the are allowed to continue until they get a square wrong. If they get a square wrong then they are stopped in their tracks and have to wait until the next call. This doesnt happen as long as they keep pressing the correct square, they can continue until they press a wroing one. When the game is in the later stages and most of the bingo squares have been called then a late arrival can still catch up quickly until they get one wrong. Is this a bug or is designed this way?

Any chance to sort the issue in 1-2 days time? I would love to subscribe - but this issue of people being able to select multiple correct boxes is bothering me

@yy97 This isnt a major problem to the game and bingo is still very much usable. You can always turn this feature off in Bingo format “Allow Unlimited Square Marking”.
I wouldnt let this issue stop you from subscribing.

Hmmm, I turned it off - but I am still able to select a previously called square when I get the currently called square correct. It is only when I select the wrong square that I am unable to select another square until the next square is called. Which seems similar to what you have described. Am I missing anything?

No you are not missing anything. As I said this is only a minor issue and I wouldn’t worry about it stopping you from subscribing. I am sure @RossN will be along shortly to update us.

Good comments. Indeed, this was a design choice, so not technically a bug. If you keep calling squares that are correct, then you can keep calling squares.

You’re saying that you would prefer that only a single bingo card square can be marked per called bingo square? And that square could be the current called square or a past square, but no more than one per called square? Doing this would mean if a player joins late, they would have no way to catch up.

@RossN That is not strictly true Ross as they can catch up. Lets say somebody comes in about halfway through the game. A number is called and they have that number so they mark in on their card. Another number is called that they do not have, but they have another press so they then try another square on their card. If they had the number for that square then they will have move forward in the game. At a certain point in the game I do agree they have no way to catch up, but early in the game they are able to catch up if they keep selecting squares they have.

I’m thinking - if anything most players would’ve joined at the start of game rather than midway. Also, would like to have the option because I am making a quiz bingo ie not numbers so would want people to be able to select an answer relevant to the hint displayed only

I mainly use variations of the classic bingo, I haven’t tried a quiz bingo, but that is something I might try in the near future. With my bingo games, I do have players that join midway. I don’t host bingo in a physical location where most of the players would already be there. Mine turn up when they want to, or they will go away and then try to catch up. My aim is to keep my players engaged in the game from the start.
