Official Version Updates

Version 6.0.0 - Major Updates Across The Board

It’s been a while since our last update, and we’ve made up for it. We’re now starting to leverage AI a bit more in our development process and have deployed a significant release that updates many under-the-hood layers of Crowdpurr, several billing bugs, along with adding some new features. This release will pave the way for many more rapid developments and features that will be released soon. Including many long-standing requests by our user-base.

NEW FEATURES :star2:

  • :page_facing_up: AI Bingo Generator - Bingo games can now be generated with AI, similar to trivia games. Free Basic Plan users can generate up to three games. All upgraded plans can generate unlimited AI bingo games. Bingo squares can also be AI generated on an existing bingo game from the Experience Dashboard. Crowdpurr’s AI integration has been updated as well to the current OpenAI frontier models, generating better and faster trivia and bingo.

  • :file_folder: Experience List Folders - Finally! You can now organize your experiences in the Experience List with folders. You can put folders within folders, re-arrange folders with experiences, and bulk select/remove experiences. Also, the Experience List is now paginated! Which is helpful for users with dozens and dozens of experiences.

  • :sparkles: Extended AI Writing Tools - For all upgraded users, new AI writing tools have been sprinkled about on the Experience Dashboard that greatly assist in writing trivia games:

    • Question - Improve Quality, Make Shorter, Make Longer
    • Answer Options - Generate Answers, Generate Incorrect Answers
    • Text Answer Options - Generate Misspellings
    • Question Note - Generate, Improve Writing, Make Shorter, Make Longer
  • :envelope_with_arrow: Update Email Address - Users can now update their account’s email address autonomously without needing Crowdpurr support.

Minor Updates

  • :rocket: New “Stadium Plan” - A new “Stadium” premium plan has been added that supports up to 15,000 simultaneous participants.
  • :dollar_banknote: Billing - New Crowdpurr subscriptions now renew by default matching typical online services, with proper notices to inform the customer. Customers must now manually downgrade and complete a feedback form. Existing subscriptions are not affected.
  • :cross_mark: Failed Payments - When a payment method fails for a renewal, users now get a permanent notification on the Upgrade page and on the My Account page to remind them to choose a new payment method or their account will be downgraded.
  • :page_facing_up: Bingo Square Sizing - The bingo square font sizing algorithm was updated across the app so bingo square text now resizes more legibly with better formatting.
  • :framed_picture: Visual Updates - Minor visual updates to the Upgrade page (plan columns and upgrade pop-ups are easier to read), My Account → Profile page, and bingo card examples in Bingo Library.

:high_voltage: Under-The-Hood Optimizations

  • Completely overhauled and optimized how the Participant View communicates with the server, going from cached methods to optimized pub/sub, greatly simplifying underlying code (this was a massive effort).
  • All remaining cached methods have a new “single flight” request coalescing that optimizes efficiency for stampede-prone methods. This removes the needs for “pre-warming” caches.
  • Upgraded how Crowdpurr micro-services communicate to a reliable/acknowledged pattern versus a “send and forget” pattern greatly improving reliability.
  • Internal framework version upgraded, upgraded multiple framework and npm packages, all methods renamed for consistency, and all HTTP error codes updated for conformity.
  • Removal of antiquated collection hooks code library (this was a massive effort).
  • Added a comprehensive test suite to all services of Crowdpurr including unit tests, integration tests, and end-to-end tests. This will greatly improve reliability and added over 1200 tests to programmatically test nearly every function in the app (and was the largest effort of this update).

:locked: Security Improvements

  • Account verification tokens are now expired after twenty-four hours versus lasting indefinitely. After expiration, a new “Verify Account” email must be requested from the My Account page.
  • Fixed a bug where locked experiences could in fact be loaded on the Experience Dashboard.
  • Fixed a bug where published library experiences could be reset to their initial state causing their QR code to not allow users to join and play the game.
  • All method signatures app-wide updated to no longer allow a database modifier to be passed from the client.

Corrects a significant amount of back-end invisible issues from the 6.0.0 update and few last visible issues that users reported. Again, 6.0.0 was a major overhaul of several systems, so a few minor bugs were expected. We have added additional tests for many of the below issues to protect them in the future.

Bug Fixes :lady_beetle:

  • Fixed a bug where if a user’s downgrade date gets extended, the user’s downgrade well on the Upgrade and Profile page would not reflect the updated downgrade date.
  • Fixed a bug where the Question Note editor could try saving an improperly validated value to the server and return a repeated blank server error instead of a client validation.

This update adds several new Social Wall features and greatly improves the performance of live streaming, YouTube, and Twitch video handling on the Participant View through a series of critical bug fixes.

NEW FEATURES :star2:

  • :speech_balloon: Download Social Wall Images - There is now a dedicated “Download Post Images” button added in two places (the new “Post Tools” tab on the Experience Dashboard → “Social Wall” tab and under the “Crowd Activity” tab). • :speech_balloon: Social Wall Post Type - The type of allowed Social Wall post can now be set to Text, Images, Text or Images, and Text and Images. This allows the host greater flexibility to set which type of posts are allowed on the social. It’s one that has also been requested by users multiple times.

More Social Wall updates are on the way as well.

Minor Updates

  • :speech_balloon: Crowd Activity Social Wall Image Viewing - In the “Crowd Activity” tab of a Social Wall, you can now view any added images in a pop-up by clicking on the image.

This could also cause sound effects, action effects, and other processes to re-run/refresh.

This new tool is much clearer than the older pre-made template games which caused confusion about question counts and where/when to edit blank questions.
