[SOLVED] Importing from Trivia Library inserts after wrong question

Hi. Love the new update, but the functionality when importing entire question sets is now different, and it would be great if you might consider switching it back.

When I’m building trivia games, I download all new question sets, export them, and put them into my own spreadsheet. That way I can build a spreadsheet that I re-import for my game. This allows me to weed out questions I don’t like, rewrite questions, and tag them with question categories and types.

It used to be, if you imported all 15 questions, then clicked on the last question, and imported another 15, the second 15 would be appended to the first. This was helpful in that when I exported the questions, I could put them in my spreadsheet and mass-categorize them with the category. Now, however, if I click on Q15, and import a new question set, it inserts at Q2 instead of appending. This means I have to export every Q set individually if I want to easily categorize and not sort.

Not sure if this was intentional (to keep people from exporting question sets) but if it was not, could it please be looked into, and perhaps “unrevised” in an future revision?

Many thanks. Love the platform. I recommend it to other trivia hosts all the time.

Hi @saltpdx. Importing a CSV full of questions has always completely replaced all of a trivia game’s current questions. There has never been any “append” functionality (though this is actually a feature we’re getting close to releasing).

I’m not sure what you mean about importing on the last question and having it add to your existing question set. It has never done that.

We will be adding the “append” capability soon. But like you, many users export all the weekly games to a CSV, then combine them, and re-import into one game. BTW, there is no need to do this. You can clone all the new games into one single game right in the Trivia Library.

So, not sure if this helped, but I’m not following what you’re describing above.

Sorry, I wasn’t clear in the behavior I was describing.

Say I have a blank game.

  • I go to “trivia topics”, under the questions tab.
  • I click on “new” and find there are 5 new topics, added in the past week.
  • I click on the first one (new topic 1), select all 15 questions, and add them to my game.
  • Then I go to question 15 and select it to indicate that’s my position in the game.
  • Then I return to “trivia topics” and select the second new topic (new topic 2). I select all 15 questions, and add them to my game.

Pre update, the questions in “new topic 2” would be added as Q16-30 in the game.

Post update, the first of the 15 questions in “new topic 2” is inserted after Q1.

So now Q1 is from “new topic 1”, Q2-16 are “new topic 2”, and Q17-30 are “new topic 1”

Is that clearer? Basically I want to be able to add all 5 new trivia topics to one game, export that game, add the questions to my master spreadsheet, and tag them for my own use.

Thank you for your reply and engagement!

Ah, I understand now. So yes, this is a new bug with the update that we are fixing as I type this. But there is a work-around to use in the meantime.

In the new update, we’ve made it so the Experience Dashboard Question tabs no longer affect the Active Question. The Active Question now only gets updated when you set it directly (in the little Active Question circle), use the arrow buttons, or use the arrow keyboard shortcuts. The idea is now you can review the next question, make edits, etc. all without pausing the game or affecting the current Active Question (a feature many users requested).

Previously and currently, when you add questions from the Trivia Library, indeed, it will add them starting at your current Active Question, which was always the Question tab you were on.

The problem you’re having is that you’re changing the Question tab to Q15 but the Active Question is still Q2. So the work-around for now is before you add more questions from the Trivia Library, just update the actual Active Question to Q15.

Shortly after the update, we realized this problem and updated it so that when you do a Add with AI or Add Blank question, it does indeed add it after your currently viewed Question tab. As this is logical because it’s what you’re currently viewing/working on (and the very issue you’re reporting here). But, updating this in the Trivia Library was more involved and we are still working on this.

But, likely in the next day or so, we will update it so it indeed restores the functionality of adding new questions after the current Question tab, not the Active Question. And if your Question tab is the Active Question, then it will work the same.

Sorry about this, and you’re not the only user to report this. I’ll post back here when this is resolved.

Just wanted to update that this issue is now resolved in our latest update. When adding Trivia Library questions to an existing trivia game, the questions are now inserted after the currently viewed question, not the Active Question, exactly how it previously worked prior to the 5.0.0 update.
