I have been running some pretty competitive trivia games lately using Crowdpurr but I have hit a bit of a snag.
I end up with two or even three players tied at the top & I am wondering how the rest of you handle that. Do you just go by who answered fastest overall? Or do you throw in a sudden-death bonus question at the end? I have tried both ways but curious if anyone has a more creative or reliable method.
I want to hear how others approach this for live events where time’s a factor. Also open to any fun or unique ways you have handled ties that made the game even more exciting for players!
Hi @geeta_gusai - Thanks for using Crowdpurr! Great question.
We’re working on a new question type that is a “closest to the number” type of question where the question would be:
Q. How long is the Great Wall of China in kilometers? A. 21,196
Then however close your answer is, the more points you get. It’s a surefire way to break a tie score. And would be a question to add at the end of your game. Unfortunately, I can’t give a date for when this will be coming.
For right now, here’s a couple tips:
Alway enable Decreasing Points Timer. Not using this setting is a sure-fire way to have tie-scores. This awards players more points for answering faster, and is the default in Crowdpurr.
Increasing the Overall Points Per Question on all questions. This helps award points down to a more detailed level. For example, if each question is only worth 100 points, and your question is 15 seconds long, players will only ever earn 0 to 100 points, increasing the chance for ties. If each question is worth 1000 points, then they’ll have a finer accuracy in awarded points (e.g. 503 points versus 50 points).
Add a few very hard questions at the end of a game. This should help with only allowing a select few players to get the correct answer.
If all else fails, you can pause the game, add a question or two from the library, and then continue your game.
